Exam Brief

The Goethe Certificate A1: Start Deutsch 1 requires very basic language skills. The examination corresponds to the first level (A1) on the six-level competence scale of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. You can after passing the exam for example

  • Understand short, very simple questions, instructions and messages in everyday situations, but also announcements on the answering machine, public announcements and short conversations,
  • Obtain relevant information for you from written short messages, public notices and classified ads,
  • Name and understand numbers, quantities, times and prices,
  • Fill in forms related to simple and personal information,
  • write short personal messages,
  • introduce yourself in conversation and answer simple questions about yourself,
  • Formulate common questions and requests in everyday life and respond to them.
