Founded in 2008, the Goethe-Language Centre at the Sichuan International Studies University in Chongqing is a cooperation between the Sichuan International Studies University and the renowned Goethe-Institut Beijing. The Goethe-Language Centre at the Sichuan International Studies University provides students in Chongqing and the surrounding provinces with the opportunity to learn German from high-calibre German instructors. Our interactive and hands-on teaching methods help prepare students for using German in the real world.
We established the Goethe-Language Centres in China not only for teaching the German language but also for providing local students an image of modern Germany. Through the courses we offer and the cultural events we organize, we aim to foster a welcoming environment that provides an authentic taste of German culture to Chinese students. Our language centres are directly licensed by the Goethe-Institut, the official cultural institute of Germany, who ensure we meet their internationally recognized standards in our course and program guidelines, teacher training and standards, as well as exam certifications.
We organize extracurricular events on a regular basis to offer the community opportunities to learn more about Germany. Put your newly learned language-abilities to use in a non-classroom setting, all while having fun.
Our library boasts a vast collection of German books ranging from non-fiction to fiction, from history to graphic-novels, suitable for learners of every level and focus.
With 200sqm of space, our centre provides students with all the facilities they need to focus, learn, and grow.
Goethe-Language Centre is easily accessible by public transportation. Located on the Campus of Sichuan International Studies University close to Lieshimu Subway Station, our campus is directly connected to the University City and also close to Shapingba Train-Station.
We learn languages to communicate with others, and in the real-world, we’re speaking one-on-one or in small groups. This should be reflected in our classrooms. With each lesson focused on a specific topic about current events and everyday issues, our classes encourage interactive and participative activities such as debates, discussions, role-plays, and brainstorming. Hone your German abilities for real-world scenarios.
Learning to teach is a life-long process. With regular training by the Goethe-Institut, our team of German and Chinese German teachers are continually perfecting their skills in not only teaching German language, but also German culture. Even the most experienced and qualified teachers take part in trainings and seminars all over China, Asia, and the world. All our teachers are part of a global community of German teachers exchanging language teaching skills and knowledge.
Demonstrate and validate your German language abilities according to internationally recognized standards.
No matter your proficiency level, from beginner to the most advanced learners of German, our placement test will sort you into the course that’s the right fit for your abilities.
Every learner has their own specific needs and focuses. Our staff is always on hand to help you with your questions or problems to help you reach your goals.
All our staff members are either native German speakers or highly fluent in German, specially trained in teaching German as a foreign language. We teach based on natural learning methods proven to be effective for using German in the real world.
Goethe-Language Centres prepare you for actually using German in your daily life. Entry level classes teach you how to introduce yourself and ask your conversational partner questions – eg. where they are from or where something is – as well as how to answer these questions.
We emphasize giving you the tools to help you understand familiar, everyday expressions and simple sentences aimed at satisfying specific needs. Whether you’re pursuing learning German for social reasons or for career advancement, our classes provide a solid foundation for using German as a communication tool.
Our course structure follows the guidelines set by the international Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Assessment (GER). This framework divides learners into three broad divisions with two subdivisions each: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2. Each level sets the benchmark for your German reading, listening, speaking, and writing abilities.
The A levels correspond to basic users, B levels correspond to independent users, and C levels correspond to proficient users of the German language. The Goethe-Institut has offered estimates for the cumulative hours of studying needed to reach each level: A1 (200 hours), A2 (350 hours), B1 (650 hours), B2 (800 hours), C1 (1000 hours), C2 (2000+ hours).
As a Goethe-Language Centre, we work tightly in partnership with the Goethe-Institut and are a certified Goethe Exam centre. Validate your learning progress through internationally recognized standardized examinations. Providing GER certificates, the Goethe-Institut examinations are accepted as proof of basic German language skills required for spousal immigration and obtaining residency permits in Germany as well as proof of qualification by many employers and educational establishments.
All Goethe-Institut exams for adult learners are audited by the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) and have been awarded the Q-Mark quality seal.
The Goethe-Language Centre at the Sichuan International Studies University nurtures a work culture that brings out the full potential of those passionate about German language and culture. We provide all our teachers with the opportunity to take part in trainings and seminars all over China, Asia, and Germany.
